An enchanting piece of mid-century European history, this vintage micro-mosaic crucifix pendant was beautifully handcrafted in Rome, Italy. The cross features a detailed jeweler's brass frame decorated with twisted rope wire filigree borders surrounding a vibrant multi-color mosaic field. Using remarkable artisan precision born from the historic Roman Grand Tour souvenir trade, tiny hand-spun glass paste rods (tesserae) were meticulously cut and hand-pressed into a traditional Vatican Forget-Me-Not floral medallion, beautifully flanked by geometric red, white, and cobalt blue tile segments.

The reverse side carries a crisp, authentic "MADE IN ITALY" signature stamp. In its current state, with a short section of vintage chain attached, the cross is presented as a standalone pendant, a meaningful faith milestone gift, or a premium supply piece for a custom jewelry restoration project.

Please note: this is an authentic estate piece and is missing a tiny tile in the corner of the left cross arm, serving as a beautiful testament to its genuine vintage pedigree.

Care Instructions

This delicate Italian micro-mosaic piece requires gentle handling. Clean the brass backing using only a dry, soft microfiber cloth to remove dust. Never submerge this piece in water, ultrasonic machines, or chemical jewelry dips. Moisture will dissolve the historic mastic adhesive holding the miniature glass tiles in place, leading to immediate stone loss. Store flat in a dry environment away from humidity.

How it's Made

This piece showcases the delicate, historic Italian art form of miniature mosaic assembly. Artisans shape a detailed crucifix framework out of jeweler's brass alloy, filling the internal channels with a slow-curing adhesive paste. Using ultra-fine tweezers, tiny hand-spun glass paste rods (tesserae) are meticulously broken into sub-millimeter tiles and hand-pressed into the matrix to form intricate, tapestried floral patterns.
